Next time you are in the Kalk Bay area of Cape Town, make sure you pop into the I AM WATER Ocean Deck & Shop, owned and run by the dynamic duo of South African Ocean Conservationist and Freediving champion, Hanli Prinsloo, and World Champion swimmer, Peter Marshall.
The Ocean Deck & Shop showcases ocean inspired local and international art, stocks top of the range freediving equipment, unique printed Yoga mats as well as ocean friendly daily products; with all proceeds going directly to the projects undertaken by the I AM WATER Ocean Conservation Trust. “At I AM WATER we believe that humans need oceans and oceans need humans! We work under the ethos of we protect what we love and we love what we have experienced” says Hanli. “I AM WATER does this through education, awareness and advocacy with a focus on innovative ocean workshops offered to underserved coastal communities globally, as well as bespoke ocean adventures for paying clients serving as a form of sustainable fundraising. The Ocean Deck & Shop will be a new space to connect with this ethos; from weekly yoga sessions to breathing classes, freediving courses and beach clean-ups.”
Some of the work on sale: Porcelain artist Katherine Glenday has created whimsical fish mobiles and paper-thin porcelain cups with ocean motifs. Acclaimed sculptor Marieke Prinsloo-Rowe has a whole new Ocean Range that will be available exclusively at Ocean Deck & Shop while some of her more iconic works will also be showcased, like the swimmer girl from the Sea Point Promenade 'Walking the Road' installation (www.walkingtheroad.com). As well as remarkable ocean illustrations from Instagram phenomenon Snow - @swimminginmoonlight to mention only a few!
So come meet the ocean conservation team of I AM WATER, book a freediving course, catch an early morning Yoga class and do a little bit of retail therapy where you know your money is going to a good cause.
